I was born in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1968, a year after my German parents emigrated to
South Africa. I spent my school years at the German School in Johannesburg and then studied for a business degree in marketing. I worked in market research for over 10 years before I got involved
in sales and I currently work in the real estate industry. I met my wife, Janine, in 2000 and moved to Durban in 2002 so that we could be together. From an early age, I regularly attended airshows,
first at Lanseria Airport and later at Air Force Base Swartkop and AFB Waterkloof. Growing up on a
diet of Mirages and Impalas left a lasting impression. I started photographing aircraft in 2006 when I got my first descent digital camera.
When I started to travel to various airshows, I got to know some amazing people and made many new
friends. I recently started writing aviation articles and designed my own website. Through Check Six, I am
grateful that I can share my experiences with a wider audience, meet new friends and tell everyone more about the South African aviation scene.
