PASSION MEETS PROFESSION

“Every generation has a story worth preserving.”

Military aviation has been part of my life since childhood, growing up beneath the flight paths of Royal Air Force aircraft in northern England. Today, I continue to combine my lifelong passion for aviation with photography and editorial work, always striving to preserve the stories, people and heritage that define military aviation.

As an Editor for CHECKSIX – The International Military Aviation Journal, I contribute decades of experience, a deep appreciation for aviation history and an enduring commitment to authentic storytelling.

The Story

Military aviation has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.

Growing up in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, I spent my childhood beneath the flight paths of RAF Lindholme and RAF Finningley. The constant sound of military aircraft overhead sparked a fascination that has remained with me throughout my life.

My professional journey followed a very different path.

Leaving school at fifteen, I began working in the coal mining industry while continuing my education through part-time university studies. After ten years underground, I moved into the construction industry before eventually establishing my own business in 1999, a business I continue to run today.

Throughout every stage of my life, aviation remained a constant.

Photography naturally became the ideal way to combine that lifelong passion with the desire to document the aircraft and people who have shaped military aviation.

One of the greatest privileges of my photographic journey was serving as the official photographer for the UK Air Crew Association. Working alongside former Royal Air Force pilots and crew members—many of them veterans of the Second World War—was both an honour and an unforgettable experience. Listening to their personal recollections reinforced my belief that preserving aviation history means preserving the memories of the people who created it.

My association with CHECKSIX began in 2005, and it has been a privilege to watch the publication grow from an ambitious idea into an internationally respected military aviation journal.

More importantly, it has allowed me to continue learning.

Every assignment, every event and every conversation offers another opportunity to improve my photography, expand my knowledge and contribute to a publication that shares my passion for authentic military aviation journalism.

For me, the greatest reward has never been the photograph itself.

It has always been the story that lives behind it.
